Fall greetings, Crunch Crew! The leaves are falling, the air is crisp, and we here at John William Macy’s are ready to get into the holiday spirit! The holiday season kicks off with one of our favorite holidays, Thanksgiving! We love the idea of an extensive turkey dinner, quality family time, and of course – the leftovers! We have put together some of our favorite hosting tips to help you set yourself up for a seamless Thanksgiving so you can make the most of your time spent with family.
Preparation is Key
There are many important pieces to a traditional turkey dinner, including numerous side dishes. You will want to prepare as many dishes as you can in the days leading up to Thanksgiving and store them in the refrigerator or freezer so you can easily pull them out and heat them up as your guests arrive. Our recipe for Cheesecrisp Stuffing is a delicious and flavorful alternative to traditional stuffing that can be prepared a day or two before your event! Some other dishes that can be prepared ahead of time are macaroni and cheese, roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, and casseroles.
An Appetizer to Impress
If you find yourself hosting Thanksgiving dinner, you will want to lean towards light appetizers that require low preparation. A charcuterie board is the perfect appetizer to hold your guests over until the main course is ready without leaving them too full for supper. You can prepare your board the night before hosting fully customize it to suit your guests’ tastes. You can also dress up your board with small pumpkins, gourds, or seasonal flowers, and use it as the perfect festive centerpiece!
Wine Pairings Worth Sharing
Charcuteries boards (like most finer things in life) are best served with wine! We have put together some wine and cheese pairings for your holiday entertaining needs, and threw our own John Wm. Macy’s flair on them, of course.
Our Garlic Romano CheeseSticks go great with Pecorino or Gorgonzola cheeses and a savory Chianti. Serve with marinara dipping sauce on the side for an elevated tasting experience!
Serve Cheddar & Scallion CheeseSticks with Gruyere or Havarti cheeses and pair with a fruity Riesling or Pinot Grigio. Wrap your cheeses in prosciutto for the perfect buttery bite!
If you’re looking for a sweet addition to your charcuterie board, serve our Asiago & Cheddar CheeseCrisps with Goat Cheese and some delectable fig jam. Pair with Pinot Noir.
Leftovers with a Purpose
One of our favorite things about hosting Thanksgiving is having so many delicious leftovers! We love a hearty sandwich piled high with turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and whatever else we can find in the fridge! If you are looking for a different way to repurpose your leftovers, try out our recipe for Pot Pie Soup! This savory soup is a total comfort food and is a great way to use up the last of your Thanksgiving turkey!
